Historically, Kerrville was founded as the first settlement in Kerr County and was a German-speaking town. Its rich history has been the subject of many literary and linguistic studies. Archeological findings suggest the area was inhabited as far back as 10,000 years ago. In the late 1840s, a group of German families led by Joshua D. Brown explored the Guadalupe Valley, and organized settlements near the bluff just north of Kerrville.
