Scurry is located in the state of Texas in the United States. The population was only 250 in the mid-1950s, and the town grew slowly over the next quarter century. The Texas and Pacific Railway established Scurry as a shipping point for area farmers. The town was named after Civil War soldier Scurry Dean, and its population reached 400 people by 1914. The decline in population began during the Great Depression, and lasted through the first decade after the war.
