Bishop, Virginia Statistic: Population, Charts, Map, Steets and More

You've probably heard of Bishop, California, but what do you know about the population and steets? Here are a few facts about this small town. The majority of people are white, making up over 80 percent of the city's population. The Hispanic population is increasing, though, and the median household income is $38,000. This city has many things to offer people and families, including a wide variety of amenities and activities.

The population of Bishop is just over 3,800, which makes it the fourth-largest city in California and the 5547th largest in the United States. Its median age is 39 years old. Because there is such limited private land for development, the city's population tends to remain fairly stable over time. About 90 percent of the land in Inyo County is owned by government entities, making it relatively difficult to build a neighborhood.

Bishop was founded in 1862 as a frontier town, but became a town in 1870. It is located just a few miles east of the San Francis Ranch and continues to prosper today. The town was named after Samuel Bishop, who owned a ranch in the Owens Valley. A monument in his honor sits at the corner of Highway 168 West and Red Hill Road, two miles west of Bishop.
