There are several neighborhoods in Lakewood, Ohio, and the wealthiest of these is Clifton Park, located on the northwestern part of the city. The neighborhood is primarily composed of large Victorian mansions, and is bordered by Sloane on the south, West Clifton on the east, and Lake Erie on the north. The Clifton Beach neighborhood is also located in this part of the city.

The city's population was 68,580 as of the 2010 census. A quarter of the population was under the age of 18 and one-fifth was under five. Approximately 57.8% of the population was married; another quarter was single-parent households. Twenty-four percent of the city's population was between the ages of 25 and 44. Twenty-seven percent of households were non-families, while 18.4% were made up of individuals. There were also several senior citizens living alone.

Among its neighborhoods, Lakewood is home to the largest Orthodox Jewish population in the United States. Nearly 60 percent of the population is observant. The city is also home to Beth Medrash Govoha, the largest yeshiva outside of Israel. Nearly five percent of residents are of Polish, Hungarian, or Russian ancestry. The city's sister city is the Tel Aviv suburb Bnei Brak.

The downtown district is also home to many new restaurants, including a newly developed mall. The Detroit Avenue strip is filled with stores, restaurants, and shops. The Lakewood YMCA, which is the city's equivalent of a rec center, is located on Detroit Avenue. The department of planning and development has been credited for its economic development efforts. The YMCA also won an award for economic development in 2009 from Inside Business Magazine.
