Before that, the town was called Warm Springs and Medicinal Springs, but became known permanently as Berkeley Springs in 1802. The town is part of the Hagerstown-Martinsburg, MD-WV MSA. It is a sister city of Bath, Somerset, England.

The Tilden Regional Park is located east of the city and occupies the upper reaches of Wildcat Canyon. The park also daylights Strawberry Creek. It is a beautiful area for hiking or biking.
