The Japanese used Mindoro as the last stop on the way to Luzon. In fact, the occupation was part of the Musketeers' plan to colonize the island. The Eighth Army took over Mindoro City on New Year's Day 1945, which was a day after the Japanese landed on the island. The guerillas were assisted by organized guerrilla forces.
