As of 2010 the city of Oshkosh had a population of approximately 884 residents. The city is located on Hwy 27 and US 26. The city is home to 33 historic properties, including the county courthouse. In addition to the historic properties, the town is also home to many well-designed buildings that were constructed thanks to the lumber industry. The wood industry generated much of the city's capital and materials, creating a diverse range of well-planned buildings in the area.

The city has fifteen public elementary schools, six public middle schools, and two high schools. In recent years, Oshkosh has had a cultural renaissance. After a successful downtown revitalization plan, the Leach Amphitheater on the Fox River was built. The Leach Amphitheater features national touring musical acts and local community events. Another cultural attraction is the Grand Opera House, a performing arts center.

In comparison to neighboring cities, Oshkosh has slightly worse life standards than the average Wisconsin city. However, the average American household is still significantly better off than the city's median income. In fact, Oshkosh has a lower poverty rate than many other U.S. cities. Currently, 10.6% of the city's residents are below the poverty line.

Historically, the city was named after the Menominee chief, Oshkosh. His name translates to "claw." It was never a large player in the fur trade, but its development was spurred by the lumber industry. In 1853, the city was incorporated as a city and had a population of almost 2,800. And the population has continued to grow.
