The population of Kalskag City, Alaska is roughly 44,000. However, it's not all about the population. The city has an impressive history and has a strong Russian presence. In 1898, Nicholas Kameroff, Sr., settled the area. At the time, the village was known as Kessiglik. This town soon became a popular winter home, and it was home to over 2,100 reindeer. Today, Kalskag City is home to two government schools, one in Upper and one in Lower Kalskag.

The area's median household income is $38,958 and includes 14.6% of people who are low-income. About 63 percent of the population is in the labor force.
