The Population & Steets of Peyton City, Colorado is estimated at approximately 50. In 1900, Peyton was mainly a farming and coal mining community, with a small number of businesses and supporting services, including a blacksmith and physician. Joseph Zimmerman built a hall over the Gates store, which later became a social center for the Odd Fellows, community dances, and other events. In 1904, the town's first telephone was installed. This early phone operated on a dry cell battery, and the lines ran along the top of barbed wire fences. The telephone system was upgraded in 1922 to a central switchboard.
