Mountain Home is the largest city in Elmore County, Idaho. It is the county seat, and the population is estimated to reach 15,979 by the year 2020. It is also the principal city of the Mountain Home, Idaho Micropolitan Statistical Area. The city is also home to Mountain Home Air Force Base, an Air Combat Command installation. It was established in 1943 during World War II. It served as a Strategic Air Command base from 1953 to 1965, but was switched to Tactical Air Command in 1966. In 1992, it became part of Air Combat Command.

As of the 2010 census, there were 4,337 households, with a median age of 29.8 years. Of those households, 37.9% had children under the age of 18, and 12.4% had a female householder who did not live with her husband. Twenty-seven percent of households were non-families. Twenty-six percent were made up of individuals, and 7.4% were senior citizens living alone. The median household size was 2.54 people and a family size of 3.11.
