Bishop Hill, Illinois, is a village along the South Edwards River. It has a population of around 128 at the 2010 census. The town is home to the Bishop Hill State Historic Site. It is operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. The city is also a home to several churches.

The original population of Bishop Hill was about 1000. The colony began to suffer difficulties shortly after its founding. Many of the first settlers died of disease during the journey. Others were disenchanted with their new life and left. The quarters were cold and cramped, and food was scarce. Eventually, the colonists moved to brick-built living quarters. They were able to plant crops on the 700 acres of land that they owned. They had also constructed a three-story frame church and a flour mill.
