Dow City's population is roughly two hundred and eighty people. Its business district is located in a former library and is part of the Dow County community. In the early part of the city, there was a large two-story hall. In the early twentieth century, the Dow and Graves firm was the most important firm in town. However, the firm's financial woes impacted the whole western part of the county.

Dow City's population is composed of people from several different ethnicities. Males are generally 38 years old and females are around forty-five years old. The city's median age is forty years old. A majority of residents are white, although some report Norwegian or Polish ancestry.

The city was founded in 1878, when a bond issue included the construction of a windmill and waterworks. It had a newspaper, The Boyer Valley Clipper, and in 1881 a council was appointed to oversee the construction of the new park. In 1881, the Blair Town Lot Company purchased land for a park in Dow City. The city's lamplighter was paid $5.00 a month and was responsible for furnishing matches and maintaining the lamp.

Dow City has a population of 485 people. Fifty-nine percent of the population is White. The remainder is Asian and Pacific Islander. Only 0.0% of the population is American Indian or Alaska Native.
