The City was planned to cost over 25 million USD. It was funded by the Dia Art Foundation and the Lannan Foundation and has since received additional funds from Heizer and others. Currently, the City is not open to the public because Heizer is working on it with an approximately 12 person team. However, the artist has promised that the City will be open by 2020. Here are some facts about this futuristic installation:

First, the city's scale is mind-boggling. The total area is more than a mile long and a quarter of a mile wide, with some portions standing more than 80 feet tall. The city is made of various materials, including sand, rocks, and concrete. The project is organized into phases, each with their own substructures. As a result, it is an enormous and intricate creation that is sure to provoke awe and wonder in those who view it.

This work represents a monumental undertaking for Michael Heizer. This unfinished piece of contemporary art spans over a mile and a half. It is the largest of its kind in the world and is set in a desert environment. Few visitors have ventured to the site due to its remoteness and solitary existence. Heizer's vision of the City is one of the most enduring of all creations.
