Charenton is a small town located in the state of Louisiana. The town is home to the Chitimacha Tribe, which is one of the few groups in the state to still live in their ancestral homeland. The reservation is located about two hours from New Orleans. Many members of the tribe were uprooted and relocated to the south, but in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, they pushed the United States government for land titles.
