Severna Park City, Maryland is an upscale community of white, middle-class families with children. Despite its high-density residential development, this city remains very conservative and largely white. A recent protest by a group of Black Lives Matter activists at a high school in the area sparked a confrontation with protesters waving Trump and Confederate flags. Eventually, a group of counter-protesters took to the streets, shouting expletives at protesters. In the end, about 100 Black Lives Matter protesters and 50 Blue Lives Matter participants marched in the neighborhood.

As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 257,996 people. Twenty-five percent of the population was under the age of 18 while twenty-six percent of residents were between the ages of 25 and 44. Twenty-six percent of households were headed by a married couple while 24.3% of households were headed by a single female. Forty-seven percent of households were non-families, while twenty-one percent of households were made up of individuals. Only 11.3% of households were headed by a senior. The median age for the city was 35, and the male to female ratio was 87.4: this is a great example of how the population has shifted in a relatively short period of time.
