The 2010 Census tallied a population of 4,494 in Champion, a town in Jefferson County, New York. Named for American Civil War General Henry Champion, the town lies on the eastern edge of the county, east of Watertown. Settlement in the town began in 1798 when Henry Champion sent surveyor Noadiah Hubbard to the area to survey the land. Hubbard settled near his homestead, which still stands today.
