The City of Brookhaven is considering an annexation of a 27-acre parcel of land to the west of Briar City. This area is expected to grow by almost nine percent. The area includes a wide mix of land uses. It also includes portions of the CHOA and Emory campuses. The Briar City growth plan is a good start for both. There are many ways to make this area more diverse.

Currently, most of the city's commercial use is in the area near the intersection of North Druid Hills Road and Briarcliff Road. The city's zoning ordinance allows multi-family dwelling units south of I-85, but newly annexed areas south of Briarcliff Road are not included in the Buford Highway Overlay District. This means that businesses located here may be restricted in their operations.
