This article provides a brief history of Hysham City, Iowa. Hysham City was founded by Charlie J. Hysham in 1871, who moved from Red Oak, Iowa, to the Flying E ranch. Large amounts of supplies were needed to sustain the ranch, so the Northern Pacific Railroad built a siding in the area, which became the nucleus of the town. The population of Hysham City was estimated at 485 by the United States Census Bureau in 2009.
