If you've ever wondered what the Population & Steets of Sergeantsville City look like, you're not alone. The town was a nucleated crossroads settlement in 1860, and consisted of a hotel, blacksmith shop, wheelwright, doctor, and shoemaker's shop. During the 1860s, the town grew and prospered. David Jackson owned a store near the intersection, and also ran a post office (at 559 Route 604). West of the blacksmith shop, John H. Green ran a feed store. The community center was constructed in 1880 by Henry H. Fisher and was used as a municipal building for a few years.

The town is located in the Amwell Valley, in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. When it was first surveyed in 1712, the city was part of Amwell Township. Amwell Township was originally in Burlington County, but was separated from it in 1713. Benjamin Field, a resident of Trenton, sold his land to Nathan Allen and John Lewis Brazier in 1727. Afterwards, the town became a part of Hunterdon County.

Amos Hoagland, a controversial postmaster, owned the Wilson store. Later known as Sergeant School, it is located on Reading Road and Rosemont-Ringoes Road. In 1834, a blacksmithy was established near the crossroads. After the Center Bridge was built, Sergeantsville remained a major crossroads for travelers. In 1827, a post office was established, and Sergeantsville was formally named a village.
