A quick look at Deming's Population & Steets will tell you that it is a small city with a population of approximately 14,000. If you've never been to the area, you're in for a treat, as the town still maintains a sense of small town USA - there are RV parks, churches, and mountains in the distance. Deming, New Mexico is located approximately 60 miles west of Las Cruces. It is the county seat of Luna County and has a population of 14,116 as of the 2000 census. Until the Gadsden Purchase, Deming served as a major port of entry for US-Mexico trade. It was given the nickname "New Chicago" because of its high railroad usage, and many expected the city to look similar to Chicago, Illinois.

The town was founded in 1881, but its history dates back to the Mimbres Indians. The Mimbres produced world-famous pottery and were thought to have lived in these towns, but vanished sometime around the thirteenth century. The city later became a Wild West town, and was a major stopping point on the Butterfield Stage Trail, which carried mail and passengers from Mexico to the U.S.
