Compared to other cities, Fishers City has a lower percentage of people belonging to ethnic minorities. The population of the city is largely composed of White people (82.3%), followed by Asians (7.7%), Black Or African American (5.2%), Hispanic or Latino (2.4%), Two or More (1.4%), and Other (0.3%). Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander (0%), however, are largely absent.

The population of the city grew gradually to 388 by the 1960 census. The railroad connection to Indianapolis pushed the city's population up, making the city an ideal place for farmers and other businessmen. In addition, the city was expanded with Fall Creek Township, and a nine-member city council was created. The new city became incorporated as a second-class city on January 1, 2015. The first mayor was Scott Fadness.

The School District of Fishers is home to 13 elementary and middle schools. These schools are called Hamilton Southeastern Schools. The district serves students in preschool through high school, with a combined enrollment of over nine thousand. Additionally, there are several private schools in the surrounding area. The HSE School District is ranked the top public school district in Indiana, and it is the largest in the country. Every Fishers student is given an equal opportunity to succeed and be successful.

The median age of the residents of Fishers City was 33.2 years. Of this total, thirty percent of residents were under the age of 18. The number of married couples was 64.1%, and there were seventy-five percent households with a woman. The number of households with no spouse was three percent. Similarly, twenty-one percent of households were non-families. The number of senior citizens living alone was three percent.
