In order to determine the relative size of neighbourhoods with low poverty rates, we used a sample size of 40% of the entire city. We also looked at the composition of average income groups and the distribution of income levels. The results indicated that some neighbourhoods have higher average income levels than others. In Rotterdam, neighbourhoods with higher average income levels were located in peripheral neighbourhoods.
The dissertation also examined the connectivity of urban networks and the relationship between neighborhood features and neighborhood satisfaction. The results showed that neighborhood satisfaction is associated with neighborhood connectivity. Moreover, it showed that neighborhoods are more satisfied when they have high levels of street connectivity and low crime rates.
The study was also able to investigate the relationship between perceived crime and neighbourhood satisfaction. The findings revealed a negative correlation between neighbourhoods with higher crime rates and lower satisfaction levels. Thus, spatial scale plays a vital role in determining neighbourhood quality. In addition, it also affects the accessibility and social safety of neighbourhoods.
The researchers found that axial integration of neighbourhoods decreased residents' satisfaction with the physical and social elements of the neighbourhood. Likewise, neighbourhoods with higher population density had lower neighbourhood satisfaction scores. The study also found that neighbourhoods with higher satisfaction levels had higher levels of safety.
