Schaghticoke is located in Rensselaer County, New York. As of the 2010 census, the population of Schaghticoke City was 7,679, a population density of 8,532 people per square mile. The estimated population for 2020 is 7,454.

The city was settled by settlers from Pennsylvania. The population was mostly English. The settlement was named for the Quaker town of Schaghticoke. During the 1800 census, there were around 500 residents. The earliest records from the town date back to 1670. Some census records are missing. The 1850 census lists William Henry as a merchant. However, his family is not listed in the 1870 census. In 1855, his parents were shocked that their daughter had married an elderly Quaker farmer. Nevertheless, the family was happy to see her resulting child.

In the early 1900s, the population was over one thousand. The town had its own police force, Constables, who were ordinary citizens appointed on a yearly basis. Its residents made up mainly private wage workers. The median household income was $53654 - the same as the city's population today. The population of Schaghticoke City is approximately 7,000 people.
