The city grew rapidly during the twentieth century. The population grew to over 200. In 1912, the city was home to the Saint Benedict Grammar School. The school was founded in 1911 by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The school's mission was to provide quality education to children and promoted Christian values.
