Bedminster grew rapidly during the Industrial Revolution, from 3,000 people in 1801 to 78,000 in 1884. This rapid growth was attributed to the coalfield and industries that came to the area. The Rockaway Valley Railroad began providing freight services between Whitehouse and Pottersville, a historic village on the border of Bedminster and Tewksbury Township. The coal industry brought many other industries to the area, including tanneries, glue-works, and glassworks. During the 1880s, the community expanded and began constructing churches, public houses, and shops.

The bedminster township has 40 municipal employees. Most of these employees perform multiple jobs. In fact, the township clerk and township administrator positions were combined, resulting in the new position of clerk administrator. As a result, most employees in Bedminster are cross-trained, and most don't own a municipal car. By sharing municipal services, the township has been able to reduce costs.

Bedminster City is a beautiful city with some historic neighborhoods. The area is divided into four historic villages. The village streets are narrow and quaint, and businesses and restaurants are located in historic homes. Some of these buildings date back to the seventeenth century. Despite this, Bedminster has not resisted change and is now home to many single-family houses and condos.
