White and Black people alike moved to Durham to work in these factories. In 1890, Washington Duke donated money to bring Trinity College to Durham. Later, his son gave millions to turn it into Duke University. By 1907, Parrish Street was lined with Black businesses. The Mechanics & Farmers Bank was established in 1907.
