The city of Lopez is located in the province of Quezon, Philippines. Its total land area is 395.1 square kilometers, or 4.53% of the total land area of the province. The terrain in Lopez is hilly and plain with coastal areas ranging from flat to mountainous. Its most prominent river is the Talolong. The city shares borders with Catanauan and General Luna in the south and Buenavista on the west.
Lorena Lopez was a journalist in Nicaragua before immigrating to the U.S. in 1993. She moved to Carroll with an Iowa native. Because of the large Latino population in the area, Lopez would often visit Denison. Then she noticed a small Hispanic newspaper, and launched a newspaper for his community. It quickly became popular, and today the Lopez Hispanic paper is one of Iowa's fastest-growing ethnic newspapers.
