Spring was incorporated in 1947, and by the 1950s it had about 700 people. As the Houston metropolitan area grew north, more subdivisions were built. Many of the older houses were converted into shops. In 1980, the Old Town Spring Association was formed to promote the shopping and dining area. The neighborhood was incorporated as a tourist area. In 1990, there were 33111 residents in the area.
