The City of New York's Department of City Planning has released a graphic showing the growth of the population in the city from the 1900s to 1980s. The graph shows two strong upward movements in NYC's population, from 1900 to 1950 and from 1980 to the present. The first movement has been attributed to suburbanization and destructive urban policies, while the second movement is associated with the 1970s financial crisis.
