Wewela, South Dakota Statistic: Population, Charts, Map, Steets and More

Wewela City is a small unincorporated town in the state of South Dakota. It is located near the Nebraska border, just south of Colome. The population was about 2,000 in 2000. The city is part of Tripp County. Its post office closed in 1910.

Freedmen and Seminoles settled in the area around the spring of 1849. Before that, the only white settler was Elijah Brown. In 1907, when Oklahoma was admitted to the union, Wewoka was made part of the state. In 1908, the city won election against Seminole to become the county seat.
