Despite the name, Eastland is a small town located in north Texas. It is the home of the Eastland Mavericks baseball team. The city was founded in 1896. In 1897, the population was only 681. In the year 2000, the population grew to 8,357. Now, the population of Eastland is approximately 10,086. In 2010, the population grew by 8.2%.

In 1884, Eastland had three churches, a flouring mill, and two cotton gins. It also had two newspapers, the Anchor and the Chronicle. From 1917 to 1922, oil production boomed in the area, and Eastland's population increased four-fold in a short period of time. According to some estimates, there were up to 10,000 people living in Eastland during its peak in 1919.
