The Bellows Falls City population and steets is comprised of the hamlets of East Hill, North Park, and South Water Streets. The town is home to the Hardy Merrill factory. It is located on the corner of Main Street and Maple Street. The buildings were originally built in 1857 and were owned by a Boston merchant named Merrill. The former Merrill's Bakery plant is still operated by Hardy Merrill.

The town is centered on the Connecticut River. There are several banks in the area, including the National Bank of Bellows Falls, the State Bank of Vermont, and the Vermont Farmers Union. Its first branch was located on Depot Street, and has since moved to Vergennes. A few notable founding members were Fred Babbitt, Dr. Blodgett, and W. C. Jewett.
