Battery Park, Virginia Statistic: Population, Charts, Map, Steets and More

Inhabitants of the Battery Park City neighborhood are mostly renters. The average percentage of rental homes in this neighborhood is 91.4%, higher than the national average of 97.1%. This means that many residents have smaller living spaces than their neighbors. However, this isn't a bad thing, as it's important to understand how neighborhoods differ. Here's a look at the neighborhoods of Battery Park City.

This neighborhood's residential population has increased by 72 percent since the 2000 census. The neighborhood's heart, Brookfield Place, is undergoing a $250 million transformation. Upon completion, there will be a Hudson Eats and six other upscale restaurants. Another project will feature a 25,000-square-foot French marketplace, as well as more than 40 new retail stores. While it's hard to predict which neighborhood will see the most growth, residents of Battery Park City enjoy many amenities in a beautiful, residential neighborhood.

The area is situated in lower Manhattan, between West Street (also known as the "West Side Highway") and the Hudson River. It has approximately 92 acres of land, of which more than one-third is parkland. The area was created by reclamation of land in the Hudson River, and the resulting land has been redeveloped for residential purposes. The area has a diverse population of around 22,000 people.

The Battery Park City community has a higher percentage of Brazilians and Eastern Europeans than any other neighborhood in America. A surprising percentage of residents in this neighborhood speak Russian at home. And while there are plenty of foreign-born people, there is a high proportion of people with American Indian ancestry. Those who do not own a car are more likely to walk to work or take the train to their place of business.
