Dungannon is a town and former district in the Mid Ulster region of central Northern Ireland. Its early history is linked to the O'Neills, earls of Tyrone. A large earthwork, or fort, was located north of the town, where the chiefs were sworn in. In 1782, Dungannon hosted the inauguration of the Irish Parliament. Today, it's a thriving market town, producing cut crystal and linen.

The town's population is also affected by bombings. There have been at least four fatal bombings in Dungannon. The most deadly attack occurred on 17 March 1976, when a loyalist car blew up a vehicle carrying four civilians. The car bomb killed four civilians, including a priest and two children. The town is now home to the Dungannon Swifts F.C. The club represents the county of Tyrone in league and international competition.
