Eastville is one of the first communities of free African Americans in Long Island. During the early nineteenth century, these immigrants joined the local Shinnecock, Montauk, and Sag Harbor Indians. European families also began moving to the town. Its early streets include Hempstead Street and Liberty Street. Today, the Eastville community still houses many original houses. Here is a look at its history.
