The town is located within Fauquier County, Virginia, and is a small incorporated town. The population was 624 at the 2000 census, but that number rose to 673 in 2008. Remington is near the intersection of U.S. Route 15 and U.S. Route 17 and Virginia State Route 28. It is approximately a mile north of Culpeper County. The town was also the site of the First and Second Battles of Rappahannock Station. Remington was a frequent target for Colonel John S. Mosby during the American Civil War, but later made his home in Warrenton.

The recent development of the Wyman Park Building, which once housed tin manufacturing companies, houses a new office for Hopkins Community Physicians. Additionally, small restaurants and bars have been popping up along Remington Row. The area has seen an influx of business, including an upscale apartment complex called Remington Row. The area's reputation has also improved since Seawall began operating here a decade ago.
