Onalaska City, Wisconsin, has a population of 18,097. It is a part of the La Crosse metropolitan area. The city was platted by Thomas G. Rowe and John C. Laird in 1851. Its name comes from a poem by Scottish poet Thomas Campbell, "The Pleasures of Hope". The name refers to an island in the Aleutian Sea that was once a fishing village. Onalaska, Wisconsin is linked to Onalaska, Arkansas, and Onalaska, Texas.
