The population of Genoa City is around 1300 people. Its median age is 33.7. Its median household income is $70,815, up from $67,600 in 2000. The city is surrounded by rolling hills and is near some great vacation sites. The town was incorporated in 1876 and is part of the DeKalb county. It is home to a village hall and one bank, State Bank of the Lakes.

The city's train depot was built in 1854. It served the Chicago Northwestern, Kenosha & Rockford, and Fox River Road trains. In the late 1800s, Genoa City was the center of a large dairy farming area. The Borden Company began operating a milk factory there in 1900. Unfortunately, the building burned on 11 and 12 November 1978. Since then, Wisconsin Dairies has opened a transfer facility.
