The population of Hiland City, Florida, is diverse. In the 2010 census, the city had a population of 7,662 people. Forty-three percent of those living in the city were under the age of 18; thirty-one percent of those living in the city were 25-44 years old; and sixteen percent of residents were 65 years old or older. The median age of the population was thirty years, and there were 83.8 males for every 100 females.

The census-designated place is located 25 miles inland from the Tampa Bay area. The climate is pleasantly warm but uncomfortable year-round. It was once a center for agriculture and phosphate mining. Today, the city is primarily a residential area and has an increasing number of mobile homes. The population of Highland City has grown by 1.7% since the census, making it a growing community.
